Chapter 1 – What Are Your Current Options (For Treating Hepatitis C)?

West vs East vs Consciousness

The biggest lesson that I learned from my HCV experience is that there is always more than one way to solve a problem. The key is you must find the path that you are most comfortable with before moving forward. I have chosen to divide the methods of treatment into three approaches…

  • Western medicine
  • Eastern medicine
  • Consciousness

The approach or combination of approaches you chose should be related to your belief system because in the end that is all that matters. In simplest terms “belief” is really what makes the “magic” happen. Spiritual avatars like Jesus, Mohammad, Buddha, Vedic-reshis etc…throughout history have been saying this over and over. Yet we have trouble understanding; we are doomed to dwell in the suffering of death and disease. Fortunately for us, there are countless stories of healing and recovery…some spontaneous, some spiritual, some by discipline and hard work, and some by the miracle of modern medicine/science. I personally believe that if you want to be “cured” you must know the following:

  1. Believe that you can be cured
  2. Know what you truly believe in

If you are of a scientific mind, believing that science/medicine is the path to a successful cure, then you should take it. If you believe in ancient herbal medicine and the healing powers of nature then you should take that route. If you believe in yourself and your own healing powers, you should ignore the naysayer and walk that path. There are no limits. You can even do a combination of two or more.

Some people will read this and balk at its simplicity, but it really does work. There are countless medical examples of the placebo effect. What is the placebo effect? Basically a person heals themselves by believing that a medicine works when they are unknowingly taking a sugar pill. There is an ancient saying, I believe it was by Socrates that said; “It is the doctor who dresses the wound, but it is God that heals it.”

If you think about it, your body is the vehicle that is actually doing all the work. Medicine, whether you’re talking about Western or Eastern is very mechanical in nature. The goal of Western medicine companies is to get you from point A to point B as quickly as possible; in most cases a drug is only designed to reduce the discomfort of disease. No drug you buy on the market today in Europe or the Americas actually cures you of anything; your body does 90% of the work.

As stated earlier, vaccines only train your body what to look for and destroy it before you get exposed to the real disease. Most other drugs offer temporary relief of pain or are used to reduce inflammation. The drugs that come closest to curing the body are antibiotics; they are designed as a poison for certain types of bacteria. There again, they don’t actually cure you, they only help your body by slowing the attack of an out of control multiplying colony of harmful bacteria.

Unfortunately, antibiotics do not work on viruses. And many times some of the other the drugs you put in your body can be just as damaging or irritating as the disease you are dealing with…this becomes apparent with the long list of side effects listed in commercials and on the back of medicine bottles. I guess that’s the price we pay for a speedy recovery!

Eastern medicine is more “natural.” It includes herbal remedies and focusing and/or releasing the body’s natural energy. Ancient doctors understood the problem with the body’s natural defense mechanism known as inflammation. To doctors that practice Eastern medicine, the body is a constantly flowing energy system. If you block off that energy in a certain area with an injury or parasites, it can cause a domino effect of discomfort, pain, full blown disease, and even death.

Herbs work like pharmaceuticals, but usually take longer to show results. This slower response time usually limits the severe side effects with most herbs. I also consider body energy work, like massage, Reiki, and yoga to be under the Eastern medicine category.

There is a third approach to perfect health that proves to be the most difficult…it relates to human consciousness. I began writing a small manifesto, but decided that the subject of healing using your conscious/subconscious power is best discussed by many of the authors I have listed in the resources at the end of this book. Start with The Power of the Subconscious Mind, by Joseph Murphy.

Using the mind to eliminate illness is not for everyone and the best advice I’ve heard was on the video version of The Secret (by Rhonda Byrne) -

“If somebody is in a situation where they are sick and they have an alternative to explore what they have in their mind that is creating it verses using the medicine. If it’s an acute situation where it could really bring death to them, then using the medicine is obviously a wise thing to do while they explore what the mind is about. So you don’t want to negate medicine, every form of healing has appliance.”
